Take a Vocation

The find of the year! Try out a job and see if you like it. Or just try something that looks like fun. Wow! Everything from Advertising to Wine Retailer. Or try Pub Landlord in England. Too bad there's no chance to try out CEO or President of a Country. I didn't see Sanitation Worker either. This is a great way to do research for that movie or story. So go!

seeing and looking

What is quantum physics? I like this explanation. Looking at quantum may be a lot like looking at a mirror: what you see depends on who’s standing in front of it. Perhaps looking at genes, especially genes related to emotions might just be the same process. Some people see one thing, some see another.

Or it could all be in your head courtesy of natural chemicals.

Or we could be evolving.

Everyone Needs One

If you are anywhere near 50, go get a colonoscopy. It's the most fun I've had in an long time and I am now a member of that elite group of old people who talk about their procedures. I found out a couple of things:

  • No one can give a terrible enough description of the cleansing process. I thought a day of not eating could only be so bad. It's much worse. On top of that, I lived in the bathroom with a really sore butt. So, it's a lot like having the flu without a fever.

  • The colonoscopy is fun! Yes. The word is "fun."

    1. You get treated like a celebrity (... well, you do if you go where I went. There's a movie of a typical colonoscopy on the site. Choose the "Procedures" link).

    2. You get really nice drugs. There's no pain and you feel really happy—not drugged.

    3. You get to see a part of yourself you've never seen before and it's pretty and pink!

So, go. Get one!

One other thing: I think I may have a food allergy. Symptoms I'd been having for years went away for about 3 days after the procedure. I may start a new blog on foods. I certainly have plenty of back story. Ha ha. Sorry about that.

Watching Monty Python in a half-starved condition vastly improves the jokes, logic, cast and set. I highly recommend it.

handsome

Just watched the entire Amazon.com "A Show of Thanks" concert. Although, it wasn't really a concert. It was two concerts, three interviews, a LOTR special and a strange man playing accordion on behalf of Mr. Snicket. And also a short New List of Rules from Bill Maher. It was just another groundbreaking internet event.

Everything functioned. I was never cut off or left adrift by technology. The video was clear and smooth. The sound was rich. I have my computer plugged into my stereo so I got the full effect. Who'd a thunk it? Bill talked about Bob Dylan doing a concert on the internet and how he could remember when Bob first went electric. The intro for Bob was about how he was making his strongest music now and yet he played 98% old stuff from the 70s. I don't mind. I like his old stuff better. Bob lost me with "Blood on the Tracks" and "John Wesley Harding." Maybe I'm not a real Bob Dylan fan. I am hungry to hear his old stuff, which I will do as soon as I finish posting this.

Norah Roberts is ... I'd like to say divine but that's not right. She's not an angel. She's a sort of sultry, very luscious Bonnie Raitt. Her voice vibrates like a bass fiddle on honey. She sings so effortlessly, as if it were easy, and maybe it is. Maybe she's a natural singer. I don't mind. She's a great blessing to us all. Her set was totally terrific. It also was amazing to listen to her sing with Bob Dylan.

Watching a show at home is definitely the way to go. It's more comfortable, no travel time and it's a lot easier to take pictures. No security issues, either.

Screen shots:

btw, did you ever try to look up who plays what on the actual DVD? Nowhere does it list the credits. You do have a list of players, so, if you can't remember who played what you have to use a process of elimination. As in, "Nope, Miranda Otto didn't play Faramir." Alright, I looked it up here. It was David Wenham. So incredibly handsome (word of the evening).

a typical day

This morning I watched two Dido videos. The DVD was for sale but it came from England. Amazon.com lists it and I saw it was recorded in 2004. I decided to buy it locally and then decided all I really wanted was to watch it once. So, tonight I go to Blockbuster, it's not there and I come out with "Hostage." What I would really like to do is go to sleep because I've been up since 3:30 am. Instead, I'm sitting in front of the computer typing and trying to decide if it should be "would really" or "really would." Maybe I'm just tired.

Celebrate Independence!

Today is Bastille Day. It's a holiday that was celebrated one year by my father and another year by my design instructor. So it sticks in my head since neither of those individuals are French. I don't see Google dressing up their home page for it. Heck, the home page of the French Embassy site isn't dressed up for it. I guess no one likes the French. Here's the Wikipedia page. Use up any left over fireworks tonight. Celebrate freedom! image source

I'm in iTunes ...

Or I will be shortly, I hope. I just published my podcast to iTunes. There is a review process. In the meantime, you can get it here right now!

Please, please, please tell me what you think!

no monsters here

I just saw Monster-In-Law. I'm so glad to be single and alone. You see, things could be worse! Fun movie though. Saw way more of Jane Fonda and JLo than I ever wanted to see. Not enough Michael Vartan. The Ruby character is classic. Really makes the movie.

And to think I was ready to have a dating profile professionally written. Wow. Goes to show you that some things are better left undone.

Internet TV

If, like me, you chose not to stay up until 1 am to see the NASA impact on the comet Tempel 1, you can get the info here. I watched the first 30 minutes of today's 2 p.m. news conference on NASA TV, which is totally my idea of great TV: on demand. Well, not the news conference so much but the recorded TV shows that run non-stop when nothing else is going on. More than that it would be nice to go and get a show anytime I felt like it. I watched portions of Live 8 on ABC and then tried to watch specific musicians (okay, Sting) on AOL Music. I suspect AOL has a cheap server because I couldn't watch a single performance online right after the event concluded. I kept getting a "File not found" kind of error. That was after I was told AOL did not support Safari (!) and that I had to use the AOL Browser. I downloaded and installed the latest AOL software which, just like previous versions, locked up my machine after quitting. I am not a fan of AOL. NASA reported billions of hits on their servers as a result of the Tempel 1 impact. Note that I had no trouble getting to any NASA site, watching video or NASA TV and they support Safari. Some really smart people hang with NASA.

I am a fan of science, so, if you are a non-scientist, try The Planetary Society. If you're a scientist, why not work for NASA? If you are an engineer working for AOL, how about fixing some of the dumb stuff?

Anthropomorphic Day

I have just installed a new faucet! It took less than an hour and did not take every tool in the house! Woo hoo! If I can do it anyone can. Just one little thing: I did not replace the pop-up drain. That would have meant removing the drain pipe and I didn't want to go there. Here's a photo of my lovely Swan faucet: It's so cute and so easy to use. I don't get hand prickles like I did turning the old faucet. You can work this one with a finger tip! I paid $65.00 for it at Home Depot. I have paid more for less useful and shorter-lived items.

On the way to the computer I took a picture of two of my servants. They look so submissive and patient standing there. Ever since Theme Thursday my perception has shifted. Just like it did years ago in art class when I was drawing a naked woman who was standing in a projected image. It's like visual upgrade. Nifty.

You may have noticed I have "Feed" buttons now. They're RSS 2.0 in preparation for my first Podcast. It's pretty easy to do with Blogger and Feedburner if you have already syndicated with Atom. When you put the URL in Feedburner, use the Site Feed page address from your site feed settings, not the URL of your blog home page. It's really sort of an experiment. I like to figure out how these things work, but then I lose interest. Hence the drifting.
